1993 May 17 The United States Supreme Court sends the case of American Family Mutual Insurance Co. v. National Association for the Advancement of Colored People back to the lower courts. Until decisions by the lower courts, the federal Fair Housing Act may be interpreted to extend coverage toward homeowner's insurance. The NAACP charged that the insurance company refused to sell to blacks or charged them exorbitant fees. The practice is also known as "redlining."
