1985 March 13 Clarence Pendleton, Chairman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, estimates that after the issue of preferential treatment is settled the Civil Rights Commission should be abolished. Responsibility for civil rights, says Pendelton, should be in the hands of the Justice Department and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
