1945 Black U.S. troops are in the forefront of victorious assaults in Germany and Northern Italy. However, the use of black troops in World War II was more confined and beset by prejudice than in World War I or the Spanish-American War. Despite efforts by some enlightened Naval officers, over 90% of blacks in the Navy are still messmen when the war ends.
